Job Announcement
Conducts investigations and tax compliance audits to verify and enforce the accuracy of reported gross receipts and business personal property; interprets and applies state, county codes and guidelines. Researches various factors that affect license liability and exclusions allowable by code; assists senior auditors when needed for purpose of information gathering and completeness of tax returns received during more complex audits. Works audits as assigned by division assistant director. Conducts research from a variety of sources including tax codes and county and state resources. Reviews and analyzes business personal property tax filings to include complex asset lists and other schedules to determine accurate reporting of taxable business equipment. Audits business license filings to determine correct classification and/or allowable exclusions for contractors and retail merchant classifications. Coordinates and document findings to determine compliance with businesses to request supporting financial documentation. Corresponds with other jurisdictions and/or state agencies to assist in making a determination.
*NOTE: Salary offer will be commensurate with related work experience and will not exceed $77,936.35 (the mid-point of the advertised salary).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to: graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, or a related field, with major course work in accounting, auditing, or finance; plus two years of professional experience in auditing or accounting.
UNDERFILL REQUIREMENTS:
This position may be underfilled as an Auditor I (Grade S-21, $50,739.73 - $84,565.73). The Employment Standards for the Auditor I are: Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, or a related field, with major course work in accounting, auditing, or finance.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Not applicable.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Thorough knowledge of accounting principles, methods, and practices combined with thorough knowledge of management principles, methods and practices;
Experience in conducting audits of both large and small businesses;
Experience in interpreting state and county codes to determine business classifications;
Strong research, writing and presentation skills;
Ability to analyze, interpret and evaluate accounting data and complex tax issues in order to make findings and/or recommendations, then communicating them clearly and concisely both orally and in writing;
Experience with Microsoft Office Products, to include Word, Excel and Outlook;
Ability to work effectively with minimum supervision while keeping several activities in progress at one time.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to the position must satisfactorily complete a criminal background check and credit check as a condition of hiring and periodically thereafter, as determined by the department head. Applicants and employees within these select positions must demonstrate financial responsibility in personal finances as a condition of employment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is generally sedentary and is performed in a normal office environment; may require standing, walking and light duty lifting. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
