POSITION SUMMARY

Primary Duties:

1. Leads and oversees the Professional Coding team (this includes but not limited to, interviewing, hiring and competency evaluations) and plans the overall workflow of the department.

2. Develops and maintains department policies and procedures, productivity standards, and an education and training materials/program for coders across all specialties.

3. Monitors adherence to productivity and quality metrics. Motivates and educates coding staff to ensure that standards are met.

4. Responds to staff questions on complex coding issues and provides resources or training to further coding knowledge.

5. Participates in the development and maintenance of institutional coding policies that adhere to official coding rules and guidelines.

6. Educates physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other health care professionals on proper documentation practices, further specificity, and re-sequencing or inclusion of diagnoses or procedures to more accurately reflect the acuity, severity, and the occurrence of events.

7. Apply extensive clinical/coding knowledge to lead the HCC risk adjustment coding efforts as well as supportive activities; specifically focused with CPC and MIPS and similar reimbursement modules.

8. Communicates coding issues/processes with physicians, medical staff and clinic leadership. Ensures that frequent and timely education is available to support accurate coding. (emphasis on specificity for ICD10-CM and risk adjustment diagnosis-HCCs)

9. Maintains and continually enhances coding skills, stays current with changes in codes, coding guidelines and regulations.

10. Coordinates with the billing department, clinic operational managers/directors and other departments to identify coding billing issues/denials and develop processes to reduce denials and missed revenue opportunities.

11. Supports the importance of accurate, complete, consistent, and compliant coding practices for the production of quality healthcare data for patients.

12. Promotes system-wide standardization and identification of best practices.

13. Ensure standardization of processes by recommendation, implementation and utilization of coding application technologies (e.i. Bell Curve Software, Encoder Pro, etc)

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Certification required in one of the following: American Academy of Procedural Coders (AAPC) certification such as: Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Physician Practice Manager (CPPM), Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA) American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) certification such as: CDIP, CCS-P, RHIA, RHIT.

SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL AND SKILL COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

Ten (10) or more of coding related experience (preferably Profee), required, with a minimum of 2 years management experience strongly desired. Knowledge of CPC , MIPS and like reimbursement modules, preferred. The ability to collect, manage, and interpret data are essential. Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact comfortably with physicians and other healthcare providers. Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (especially Excel), AllScripts EHR, AllScripts PM, Cerner Millennium, Greenway, Intelicode and NexGen is desired. Experience with GE Centricity preferred, but not required.

Washington Regional Medical Center opened as Washington County Hospital in 1950 as an acute care facility with 50 beds on the corner of College Avenue and North Street in Fayetteville, Arkansas. In August 2002, the new Washington Regional Medical Center opened with 233 beds on North Hills Boulevard. Throughout the years Washington Regional has maintained its place as a progressive leader in healthcare in Northwest Arkansas. Today, the medical center is part of a comprehensive health care system that includes North Hills Surgery Center, Dialysis Centers of NWA and a network of clinics and services in Northwest Arkansas. Washington Regional Medical Center is the region's only not-for-profit; community owned and locally governed hospital. Washington Regional Medical Center Timeline 1947 Washington County Judge Witt Carter appointed a county hospital commission to study the possibility of building a second hospital in Fayetteville to relieve overcrowding at City Hospital. 1948 Architect Paul Young Jr. completed hospital design. 1950 August 28, Washington County Hospital opens for business with 50 beds. George Berryman of Dallas is named as the first hospital administrator. From August 1950-August 1951, 499 babies are born at Washington County Hospital. 1953 Polio ward opened. First polio patient admitted August 14, 1953. Washington County Hospital's first auxiliary was formed with a nucleus of 11 women and Benny Carlisle, administrator. 1954 Employees began fund-raising efforts to install individual air conditioning units in rooms. 1955 Washington County Hospital had 60 employees with an annual payroll of $120,000. There were 33 physicians and 38 nurses and nurses' aides. 1957 Cable television installed in patient rooms. 1959 New two-story wing to the east and 2nd floor over existing hospital was completed. The new addition added 100 new beds, which doubled the hospital's capacity.
