The North America Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) department is comprised of the following teams to execute independent risk management oversight in the respective risk areas:
- Asset Liability Management
- Risk Governance and Reporting
- Model Risk Management
- Operational Risk Management
- Capital Modelling and Stress-testing
The ERM department is responsible for independently facilitating the identification, assessment and prioritization of risk and risk mitigating actions in a comprehensive and repeatable manner through a group of structured and consistent processes that are applied across the Combined North America Operations.
As part of the second line of defense, the ORM department defines the limits, mandates, guidelines, reporting standards and policies in accordance with laws, regulations, and strategy and risk appetite; measures, monitors and controls the risk profile. ORM is also responsible for independently assisting the first line of defense, in risk identification, assessment, mitigation, monitoring and reporting as the first line of defense is responsible for taking and managing risk.
The Operational Risk Manager is responsible for the management, implementation, and maintenance of the operational risk and control framework particularly as it relates to the requirements under Basel II. The position is responsible for pertinent operational risk reporting including timely distribution of reports to the organization, on-going training to the Risk and Control Partners from the first line of defense and challenging the first line defense with respect to risk and control self-assessments and operational risk incidents.
The position requires the ability to understand business unit risk and control environments, risk and control awareness within the organisation.
The position will work closely with all department managers and Risk and Control Partners, Senior Management, Internal Audit and Compliance. The position may also have to interact with external auditors, regulators, and industry groups as necessary.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Act as liaison between 4 US entities and Global stakeholders to prioritize and implement global projects related to ORM.
Conduct impact analysis on regulatory changes and supervisory guidance related to ORM.
Coordinate the preparation of sensitive reports and various analyses; preserve the confidentiality of sensitive material routinely encountered as part of work assignments.
Engage with stakeholders both within North America and head office in the Netherlands.
Support the Head of ORM in implementing and maintaining the Operational Risk framework.
Provide and monitor training in relation to Operational Risk
Facilitate and challenge risk and control activities as 2LOD and provide guidance to the 1LOD in this process.
Develop operational risk reports and facilitate the Operational Risk Incident Analysis process.
Assist with maintaining the Operational Risk policy framework.
Assist the Head of ORM in other ad hoc ORM projects and tasks.
Bachelor’s Degree in Business or equivalent work experience;
Outstanding technology proficiency, including all aspects of MS Office.
Excellent communication, follow-up and organizational skills.
Strong attention to detail.
Able to interface effectively with all levels of management; extensive contact with senior level management.
Able to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines and independently manage multiple priorities with limited supervision or direction.
The key relationships for the position will include the Head of Operational Risk Management, the Operational Risk Management team, Head of Enterprise Risk Management, Risk and Control Partners, Department Managers, Chief Risk Officer.
Key Performance Indicators:
Adherence to all bank wide policies and procedures and completion of all mandatory training.
Demonstrated ability to identify operational risk weaknesses and application of such knowledge by ensuring adherence to our monitoring program.
Effective challenge of the 1LOD with respect to risk assessments, lessons learnt reports of incidents
Timely and accurate completion of operational risk reporting and other ad hoc initiatives
Job Skills and Knowledge:
Prior experience in a risk management, audit or compliance function
Strong problem solving abilities
Excellent report writing and presentation skills
High degree of flexibility to accommodate the varied demands of the business.

7 years of experience in banking/ financial services
