Job Summary

The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing day to day marine operations, ensuring all personnel are performing their assigned duties safely and efficiently. The Operations Manager will travel to the various Atlas Marine Services (AMS) locations of operation periodically checking on quality of work, personnel and compliance with federal, state and local regulations. Assist the Director of Marine Operations with AMS projects as needed. Give guidance and oversight to logistics and shore tankerman. Be proactive in developing and training AMS vessel and shoreside team members. Work closely with sales team to ensure customer experience is as high as possible. Actively support the vision, mission and operating principles of Atlas.

Management Responsibilities

Manage vessel/terminal employees

Oversee vessel crew documents and training

Oversee and manage marine equipment operations and budget

Ensure regulatory and company compliance of AMS employees and equipment

Ensure all safety and environmental policies are maintained

Ensure effective communications to management and team

Required Education / Certifications

• Bachelors Degree in Management or 8 years of experience working in marine industry as manager.

• Valid Driver License

• Valid TWIC

• Valid Merchant Mariner Credential with Tankerman PIC (preferred)

• Experience with internal/external auditing preferred

Primary Responsibilities & Scope

• Help oversee AMS all areas of current and future operations Liaison with industry and regulatory organizations on Atlas Marine Services interests

• Assist in dispatching and logistics of AMS equipment

• Assist with special projects using experience and knowledge of equipment and industry standards

• Interview prospective vessel crew and shoreside personnel and follow hiring guidelines

• Work closely with vessel Captains to ensure each vessel, tug and barge have effective maintenance and inspection schedule

• Conduct performance reviews, performance management and succession planning initiatives for vessel crews

• Conduct internal audits, oversee TSMS, ensure continuous improvement for all AMS operations

• Ensure adequate vessel manning is maintained and that all schedules and established and followed.

• Maintain equipment performance reports, forecast maintenance items or operational unavailability and communicate as such

• Create, maintain and actively monitor vessel and marine department budgets

• Properly coach, counsel and/or discipline AMS marine crews as necessary at or near time of the event

• Ensure proper reporting of all illness, injuries, spills, casualties etc as required, as soon as possible in accordance with company policy, regulatory standards.

• Ensure all required annual, quarterly, monthly, and weekly drills, training and exercises are completed and documented as such

Required Experience

• Experience: 5 years management experience; marine experience a plus.

• Computer Skills: Proficient with MS Word, Excel and email.

• Communication Skills: Must be able to communicate clearly and understandably both verbally and in writing

• Organizational Skills: Needs to be self reliant, self starter and motivated. Team builder and project leadership.

• Have Reliable Transportation to and from job sites
