This position will be based out of Delaware North’s new global headquarters, a state-of-the-art, 12-story, mixed-use building in downtown Buffalo, N.Y. The headquarters facility, reflective of our values, integrates the latest advances in environmental, energy conservation and office design.
As an Internal Auditor for Delaware North, you will organize and conduct operational, financial, compliance and process audits at corporate and subsidiary unit locations. Identify, and clearly define, audit issues and root causes, recommend improved internal controls and business processes, and ensure that corrective action plans are developed and implemented. Assist with special projects, investigations and ad-hoc requests. Must be able to travel to Delaware North's US Gaming operations, as well as assist your peers on audits at other worldwide sites, which offer services from sports arenas to airports to national parks to gaming destinations, hotels and restaurants.
The majority of the work performed will be audit field work focused on our Gaming business. This includes:
Review and evaluate methods of internal control at unit and corporate locations. Conduct interviews and gather information from various sources to obtain understanding of the flow of information in a process. Assist others in identifying areas for improvement in efficiencies and in the effectiveness of internal controls. Assist others in developing a standardized business process that is efficient, effective, and can properly address risks/exposure in operations.
Test for compliance with corporate policies, federal regulations and generally accepted accounting principles; provide recommendations to minimize deficiencies.
Establish strong working relationships with unit management, while maintaining professionalism and independence.
Participate in audit planning; develop plan and scope of an audit and prepare audit planning memo and program. Review prior reports, historical data, determine disposition of prior audit reports. providing assistance in compiling audit findings and identifying recommendations for modifications and improvement to systems and procedures.
Write audit reports regarding results of audits, to include audit issues, recommendations, and management’s response.
Perform and assist in the completion of investigations or special project memos, with the ability to communicate a concise but detailed overview of procedures performed, issues noted, and recommendations.
Who Do We Want?
Our ideal candidate will possess the following:
4 year degree in Accounting, Internal Audit, or Finance, with a strong commitment to pursue CPA, CIA, CFE or other approved certification. MBA or MS Accounting is a plus.
Must have a baseline knowledge of audit procedures with a minimum 6 months of work experience. Entry level knowledge of accounting principles and evaluating internal audit standards, procedures and techniques is required.
Prior experience in a Casino or Gaming operation is required. Must be able to obtain Gaming License.
Basic knowledge of internal control concepts, internal auditing standards, COSO, and risk assessment practices. Once you are up to speed, we expect that you have a good ability to work independently, with limited required direction and guidance, and provide appropriate direction to other team members. You will learn how to identify, document, and evaluate internal controls and develop recommendations.
Strong MS Office skills required. Training will be provided in PeopleSoft and Teammate Audit Software.
Exceptional interpersonal skills and a strong sense of self-confidence to be the expert on site, dealing with personnel at various levels of management.
Strong analytical, problem solving, and communication skills.
Ability to multitask and work well in an ambiguous environment.
Ability to maintain a current knowledge base of audit industry practices and to ensure best practices are always considered.
Basic data analytic abilities to identify trends and areas of concern from large data sets.
This job requires 50% national and international travel.
