Overall Job Objective Description and Functions Open Until Filled GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  Under limited supervision, as an in-charge auditor, conducts audits of small to medium business entities.  Assists in planning and conducting external tax audits of moderately complex to complex business entities, having nexus within our state that use multiple and diverse accounting, computer, and database systems, as well as operating policies and procedures to ensure compliance with tax law and increase state revenue by exposing unpaid or under paid taxes and fees.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.Examine license applications, tax history records, and other relevant data to perform a risk assessment on the potential auditee; engage auditee both verbally and in writing.Examine financial records of a business to verify accuracy of taxes and fees remitted to the state.Assist team member in reviewing and examining relevant information to make a determination regarding compliance with state taxation and international agreements.Compile raw audit data into work papers, make determinations about tax liability, prepare audit findings and write detailed audit reports and finding letters in accordance with established Department procedures and format.In all matters, maintain a professional and independent attitude and appearance.Performs detail reviews of all work to ensure conclusions are supported by evidence and in compliance with auditing and department standards.Must have good oral and written communication skills in order to communicate in a professional manner.Ability to testify at State Board of Equalization, Federal and State District Court proceedings and defend audit findings and conclusions.  Qualifications KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of different accounting and software systems and programs used by small less complex business entities.Knowledge of how businesses structure their tax accrual accounts.Knowledge of International laws and agreements associated with IFTA and IRP, GAAS, GAAP, and SAS 39.Ability to apply accounting principles and business practices in obtaining information needed to perform audits.Ability to apply Wyoming laws to companies located in multiple jurisdictions.Must be able to deal with difficult people.Ability to learn new and multiple tax types.Knowledge of Wyoming Statutes associated with sales, use, fuel, tobacco, IFTA, IRP, 4% rental vehicle surcharge and corporate fee structure; rules and regulations associated with each of the fees and tax types.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education:Bachelor's Degree (typically in Finance) PLUS Experience:0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Auditing) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Auditor I OR Education & Experience Substitution:3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Auditing) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Auditor I Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:None Necessary Special Requirements PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:Must have a valid driver's license.Must be able to travel extensively in all types of weather conditions.NOTES: FLSA: Exempt  Supplemental Information 021-Department of Audit - Excise Tax Division - HR Contact 307-777-5312Click here to view the State of Wyoming Classification and Pay Structure.URL: http://agency.governmentjobs.com/wyoming/default.cfmThe State of Wyoming is an Equal Opportunity Employer and actively supports the ADA and reasonably accommodates qualified applicants with disabilities.Class Specifications are subject to change, please refer to the A & I HRD Website to ensure that you have the most recent version.
