Role Summary:
Executes financial reporting audits on ceding companies and their third party administrators (TPA) to assure compliance with reinsurance treaties and associated policies in accordance with Capital North American Life and Health's audit methodology and established professional auditing standards.
Essential Responsibilities:
Independently execute audits of client financial reporting (premium, commission, claims, accounts payable/receivable, funds held, reserves and cash) for compliance with reinsurance contracts and policy terms.
Manage the audit planning including meetings with stakeholders, logistics, scoping, sampling, policies, etc..
Partner with Actuarial, Finance, Operations. Risk and other teams as needed.
Present oral and written results of audits to Stakeholders (client, senior leadership and operations team) .
Ensure written reports are documented clearly and concisely.
Escalate issues to senior management as appropriate.
Identify concerns and control issues, determine root cause of issue, implement appropriate corrective action.
Manage wing to wing tracking and remediation of open audit follow up items for risk reporting.
Maintain professional client relationships and communication.
Lead accounting and finance projects, including projects to review treaties and confirm/edit client reporting and practices.
Maintain audit professional standards while conducting on-site audits.
Establish and maintain ongoing relationships with business and functional leadership for subject areas.
Qualifications/Requirements:
BA/BS Degree in Accounting, Finance or related area of study.
Minimum 4 years accounting, insurance or financial auditing experience (e.g. AR, AP, GL, Cash, Planning or Audit).
Strong computer skills (e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Demonstrated ability to complete multiple assignments accurately and on time.
Desired Characteristics:
Auditing experience in Reinsurance, Insurance or other Financial Services sector.
CPA/CIA designation.
Experience with analysis and interpretation of reinsurance treaties and/or insurance policies.
Experience with Long-Term Care, Disability or other A&H insurance products.
Outstanding analytical and problem solving skills.
Detail oriented, collaborative problem solver who works well across functions.
