Staff Auditor Jobs
The staff auditor job involves many tasks, duties, and responsibilities. The staff auditor supports the audit management in preparing audit programs, he meets with and interviews the essential audit clients, and he participates in meetings with clients and meetings among audit staff and management. He carries out filed test work and audit procedures as necessary. He conducts financial audits in accordance with Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS), to establish compliance with policies & procedures and to calculate the effectiveness of internal controls. He also communicates and conducts interviews with operations staff and/or management regarding their control environment and changes in control activities from prior audits. He manages assignments within time budgets and target dates, reporting any timing problems or budget overruns to managers. He assists in preparing audit reports and making practical and value-added recommendations to improve risk management practices and the efficiency and effectiveness of operations, and he participates in special projects as assigned.
The minimum qualifications required for being a staff auditor is a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or information technology. Most staff auditors nowadays hold advanced degrees, which is desirable. A candidate should have professional certification such as a CPA, CIA, CISA, or CA to get into the career. Along with the desired educational qualifications, he should have minimum 1–3 years of related auditing, accounting, and/or finance experience within a firm that specializes in governmental and/or nonprofit audits.
