IT auditors are among the fastest growing careers in all fields of Information Technology. It involves the collection and evaluation of the IT system prevailing in the organization. They look at functions like physical, business, and financial control. The IT auditor may have to perform technical evaluations, conduct business and financial compliance, and operational audits not only to agencies but to departments, programs, and activities. They also give technical support to the organization. They should have a detailed knowledge and practical experience on computer systems like mainframe and PCs. They should be capable of solving all problems relating to LAN and WAN. They may also have to assess the risk involved in all the divisions of a company.

The criteria of selecting an IT auditor are important. They should have experience reaching a minimum of five or more years for IT auditors along with a related college degree. They should possess excellent communication skills and strong writing skills.

To be an IT Auditor, certifications are extremely necessary. Such certifications are: CIA (Certified Internal Auditors), CISA (certified information systems auditor) and CISSP (certified information systems security professional) certifications, Certified Financial Services Auditor (CFSA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Government Auditing Professional (CGAP), and Certification and Accreditation Professional (CAP).



IT auditors may work in the private or public sector, which requires managing a set of records and also auditing the same. It is their sole responsibility to confirm that the company is working efficiently, keeping in mind the available resources. The number of businesses is increasing year after year, and from that they have a need for IT auditors. Good auditors make a reasonable salary if they possess communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to understand the data quickly and analyze it for the company or individual he is working under.

The salary of an information technology auditor varies widely between $50,000 and $80,000. The salary of the auditor increases with experience.
